THE WINE DISTRICTS

The wine terrain in Walla Walla is ever changing (which makes it so much fun!), but we have summarized the major areas by geographical region. Each area is less than 15 miles from the center of downtown Walla Walla, which makes them all accessible in a day’s tour!

  • THE SOUTHSIDE

A diverse selection of wineries characterizes our region, home to nearly 30 wineries, including some of the oldest, and newest! Many wineries boast estate vineyards on site, creating the idyllic winery experience. Additionally, select wineries enhance their tasting menus with food pairings and provide comprehensive tours, offering a blend of pampering and educational insights.

  • OREGON WINERIES

The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, characterized by its extensive cobblestone alluvial fan, is entirely situated in Oregon. Notably, one of the region's most ambitious vineyard projects is located on the southern hillside of the Valley. Additionally, for enthusiasts of soil science, the Northfork and Southfork river valleys in Oregon are home to some of the most remarkable basalt vineyard soils, offering a unique terroir for grape cultivation.

  • “UPPER” EAST SIDE

Heading out of town on Mill Creek Road exposes you to some of the most stunning vineyard views in the Valley. This area is home to several award-winning wineries with prestigious bottlings and exclusive wine clubs.

The Upper Eastside District receives more rainfall than the other districts (up to 22 inches), making it possible to dry farm in wet vintages.

  • IN CITY

Attractive brick buildings line the historic downtown of Walla Walla. Many of the shop fronts here have been converted into winery tasting rooms, complete with outdoor seating.

Walk up and down the main streets to sample wines, eat at restaurants, and enjoy the small-town atmosphere of Walla Walla.

  • AIRPORT DISTRICT

The Walla Walla Valley airport has emerged as a hotspot and proving ground for new and rising wineries. In 2000, the Port of Walla Walla initiated the Incubator Project to offer emerging winemakers a low-cost location to begin their ventures. This area is known for its casual, artistic, and innovative atmosphere, where creativity is a key driver in the winemaking process.

  • AND MUCH MORE...

The Walla Walla Valley is a world-class wine destination and is home to nearly 200 wineries. Known for its friendly, small-town ambiance, the region features a diverse mix of wineries that appeal to everyone from the serious wine enthusiasts to those just embarking their wine journeys! Let us curate the perfect day for your unique group!
